As you may know, Snapchat is one of the most popular social media platforms used by millions of people.
Snapchat’s parent company Snap has been trying to launch hardware accessories like the Snapchat Spectacles to improve the user experience.
Snapchat has now introduced a new cute little camera drone that goes by the name of Pixy. Unlike traditional drones, Pixy is pocket-sized and comes with four small propellers.
The drone weighs only 101 grams, making it very portable. There is a single 12MP sensor on the drone and the integrated 16GB storage can store up to 100 videos or 1,000 photos.
Snap stated in a press release that,
“Introducing Pixy, your friendly flying camera. It’s a free-flying pocket-sized sidekick suitable for adventures big and small. […] With the simple push of a button, Pixy flies in four preset flight paths. It can hover, orbit and follow wherever you go, without a controller or any setup. And Pixy finds its home in your hand and lands softly at the end of the flight.
Since Pixy comes with four preset flight paths, it has no remote control. When you want to stop a recording or just take the drone down, you can place your hand under the drone and it will land in your palm.
As for the battery, Snapchat claims the drone will offer five to eight flights once fully charged. Videos captured by pixy will be sent to your Snapchat memories. There you can edit them with Smart Edits and crop them to fit smartphone screens.
Obviously, Pixy isn’t meant to replace a good drone. It is ideal for casual users who want to take photos and videos every now and then. Pixy retails for $230, and if you add an extra $20, you can get a portable battery charger (which only comes with two extra batteries).
