The last major iOS update came around in September 2021, so it’s not surprising that users are eagerly waiting for the launch of the next iOS version, which is iOS 16. While the announcement of this upcoming OS version has been made, there is no official release date yet.
Most of the rumors suggest that the launch date will come with the official release of the iPhone 14, which usually happens around Apple’s fall event.
The good news is that the developer beta and public beta of iOS 16 has already launched, so people are aware of the changes and upgrades that the new iOS version will bring.
When will iOS 16 be released?
The official announcement of iOS 16 was made on June 06, 2022 during the WWDC event. Since then, some beta versions of the operating system have been released.
However, the stable version of iOS 16 is expected to be released in September 2022, just like last year.
In addition to the developer beta, which will be launched as the first release, Apple has also launched the public beta for interested users who want to try out the new version of iOS. The first public beta was launched on July 3.
Since people expect the official launch of the iPhone 14 to be around September, it is not surprising that the 2022 launch date of iOS 16 is expected to coincide with the official launch date of the iPhone 14.
If Apple is following what happened last year, the public beta rollout started around June-July and the stable version of iOS was launched in September. A similar schedule will follow for the iOS 16 as well if every year goes the way it normally does.
Which phones are compatible with the launch of iOS 16?
With each new iOS launch, users are constantly concerned about compatibility. Will my iPhone model work with the new iOS version? Does my iPhone support iOS 16?
Following is a list of the iPhone models that will receive the iOS 16 update:
- iPhone 13 Mini
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max

How to download the iOS 16 beta?
The stable version of iOS 16 is not yet available, but the public beta of the operating system is. However, we strongly recommend that you download the beta version to a spare iPhone and not to your primary one.
If the iOS 16 public beta is available on your iPhone model, you can update it directly from the system updates in the phone’s settings.
Since the public beta is often unstable and contains many unresolved bugs, there is a chance that your iPhone is at risk. So, we suggest that you install it on your spare iPhone only to avoid software-related issues that could wipe your entire phone’s data.
