How to use the new text feature: iOS 16 iMessages

Apple finally released iOS 16 at the WWDC 2022 event after months of anticipation. It’s an update that offers upgrades to a variety of applications, including a redesigned home app for your smart devices, improved privacy features, and an emphasis on the lock screen, with new fonts, colors, and themes to choose from. iOS 16 is a major update that will change your iPhone experience.

In this article, we are going to talk about iMessages update. Now that iPhone users can edit and send iMessage messages, iOS 16 becomes a game changer. Yes, you heard right with this new update coming this fall, you can edit or undo text messages just like any other messaging app. The Messages app in iOS 16 is getting some new features. Prepare to correct your mistakes.

Apple’s New Text Feature on iOS 16

Apple has updated Messages with lots of new features. Users can recover previously deleted messages, edit or retrieve recently sent messages, and mark chats as unread so they can come back to them later.

Firstly, “unsend” has come, allowing you to delete a message up to 15 minutes after you’ve sent it – useful if you discover you’ve sent it to the wrong person. Likewise, posts can be edited within the first 15 minutes. However, this only applies to iPhone-to-iPhone messages.

By touching and holding a balloon and selecting the option, users can change or unsend a message. According to Apple, users can edit or undo a message up to 15 minutes after sending, and recover recently deleted conversations up to 30 days after deletion.

Wrong text sent! No worries. You can easily edit these text messages and correct the mistake made. All you need to do is press the text down and select ‘Edit’. Then you can make all necessary changes. However, keep in mind that after editing the text, the other person may get a notification that you edited the text message.

Second, previously an iMessage can never be undone or deleted once you hit the send button. Now, however, Apple has provided the long-awaited upgrade, the unsend option. If you have a message in your hand, iOS 16 adds an “Undo Send” option to the menu. The message is removed from the conversation.

Finally, when you start a discussion, messages are marked as read, but what if you can’t reply right away? Want to remember the chat later? Conversations, such as text messages, can now be marked as unread in iOS 16. Marking a chat as unread should work in both iMessage and SMS, but editing and unsending are only available in iMessage. All of these improvements and more will be available in iOS 16 later this year.

Until next time, with a different topic. Until then, Toodles.
