Well, Apple took the idea and launched an application called Freeform, which is basically a whiteboard for any smart device. Apple had already initiated and talked about this idea at the WWDC event, although it was supposed to be released with iOS 16, Apple took its time and made it available to the public with iOS 16.2.

How to use the Freeform app on iOS 16.2

The Freeform app is available on all Apple devices including iPhone, iPad and mac. Follow all the steps below to learn how to use the Freeform app on an iPhone running iOS 16.2.

Step 1: Update your device

Your iPhone device must be running iOS 16.2 or later. If you’re using it on an iPad, you’ll need iPadOS 16.2 or later. If you own a Mac, you need macOS Ventura 13.1 or later to download and use the Freeform app.

Step 2: Enable the Freeform app

  1. Go to the settings app on your iPhone/iPad.
  2. Tap your profile.
  3. Click on iCloud and tap on Show All option.
  4. Toggle on the Freeform app toggle.
  5. You can find the Freeform app on your home screen or in the app library.

Step 3: Make a board

  1. Launch the Freeform app.
  2. Click the new board icon.
  3. Write, sketch or doodle on the screen.
  4. Go back to the previous window.
  5. To rename your board, tap the three-dot icon and click rename.

Step 4: Share a plate

  1. Open the Freeform app and find your board.
  2. Long press on your board to get the share option.
  3. Select share in the popup.
  4. Select the person you want to share the link with.
  5. You can also adjust the link settings before sharing by selecting Only invited people can edit.
  6. You can even export the file in PDF format by selecting Export PDF from the popup.

Step 5: Using Tools

All tools icon is displayed at the top of your screen. Whichever tool you want to choose, all you have to do is click on the icon.

  1. Draw: Tap the draw icon at the top of your screen to write and sketch.
  2. Sticky Notes: Add a yellow sticky note to your whiteboard and start writing your key points. You can add bullet points to the sticky note and even change its color.
  3. Shapes: You have different categories of shapes and objects such as 2D or 3D shapes or animals or geometry, you have 13 different categories to choose from to add to your board.
  4. Text Boxes: To add the text, you can click on the text box icon. You can even add photos, videos or PDF files to it.
  5. Markup Tools: This option may be familiar to you because you’ve used it in the notes app or while editing the photos. Pencils, pens, crayons, erasers, etc. are all part of the markup tools. The only change here is that you don’t get a scale or highlighter.
  6. Attachments: Insert files from your device, use the camera to add images, scan documents, add links, and photos and videos from your device. all this can be done with the help of a confirmation tool.
