If you also plan to use 5G on your iPhone running iOS 16.1.2, which was released a few days ago, then this article is for you. Read on to the end to learn more about using 5G in iOS 16.1.2.

How to use 5G in iOS 16.1.2?

The single most important thing you need before using 5G in iOS 16.1.2 is that your SIM card must be 5G capable. Jio and Airtel have already launched a 5G SIM card. You also need a mobile 5G subscription.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the mobile data tab.
  3. Click on the network selection option.
  4. If you are on the Jio network, enable the Automatic option.
  5. If you are on the Airtel network, click 5G Auto or 5G on option as desired.

OR

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the mobile data tab.
  3. Click Mobile data options.
  4. Tap voice and data.
  5. Select 5G. (You can choose 5G Auto or 5G On in the network selection option.)

If you’re in an area with 5G service for your carrier and your 5G cellular plan is enabled, you’ll see a 5G icon in your iPhone’s status bar.

What is the difference between 5G Auto and 5G on:

When you use 5G Auto, your device will enter smart data mode. It automatically switches to a 4G network when the 5G network fluctuates or gives you less speed. This can help you extend the battery life a bit.

When you use 5G on, it will always use the 5G network and will not automatically switch to the 4G network even if the 5G network is low. This will also shorten battery life.

Which iPhone models support 5G?

Unfortunately, not all iPhone models get 5G support on their device, only some iPhone models are compatible. All iPhone models under iPhone 12 series do not support 5G on their devices. Below is the list of all iPhone models that support 5G.

  • iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max.
  • iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max.
  • iPhone 14, iPhone 14Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max.
  • iPhone SE 2022.

Note: Currently 5G support is ready, but 5G network mode is not available in some regions. Make sure your region has started giving support for the 5G network. As for the confirmed dates, none of the telecom providers have given any information on when they will roll out the 5G network.
