The AMBER Alert system is an important tool in locating and finding missing children in your area. Isn’t that amazing, a single tool can help you find a person in just a few clicks.
We know that AMBER Alerts notifications can be a little frustrating. But disabling AMBER warnings may limit your ability to assist the police in recovering these kidnapped children.
What are AMBER Alerts?
The United States participates in the AMBER (America’s Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response) program. When authorities are looking for a missing person and there are indications that the person is in your area, an AMBER warning is issued regularly. It informs broadcasters and commercial mobile service providers about an abducted child.

HOW DOES AMBER ALERT WORK?
AMBER alerts, as well as other government emergency alerts such as emergency alerts and public safety alerts. When an AMBER alert is issued in your area, your phone will notify you automatically. They’ll ring your phone even if it’s silent on most phones – you can get AMBER alerts any time of the day. Even if your phone is set to silent, it will emit a loud sound when law enforcement issues a new alert. AMBER alerts do not use your device’s default notification sounds. Instead, they have a clear distress tone that uses your device’s maximum loudness.
If you follow our advice, we don’t recommend disabling AMBER Alerts, as doing so could cost lives. We know they’re too loud, but they’re meant to be, so it can easily grab your attention.
