Bungie is reportedly working on a Destiny mobile game

Destiny mobile game

Bungie, the developer behind Destiny and Halo, and NetEase, a China-based internet technology giant, are reportedly working on an unannounced first-person shooter (FPS) mobile game Destiny.

The report comes from The Game Post, which weekly searches job openings and LinkedIn pages for new clues. The news in question was found when a NetEase employee who had posted on LinkedIn spread the beans, claiming to have been working on “an unannounced FPS mobile game” with Bungie.

While the LinkedIn post doesn’t directly state that it’s a Destiny game, an anonymous source familiar with NetEase’s development plans confirmed to The Game Post that it was indeed a game set in the Destiny universe, which has been around for more than a decade. than two years in development.

The source also confirmed that the new FPS mobile game will be a standalone title rather than an expansion of the mobile version of Destiny 2 or its predecessor.

According to The Game Post report:

Last year, TGP reported that Bungie may be collaborating with Netease Games on a mobile Destiny game, as the studio released several job listings for a major mobile title in the Destiny franchise.

In addition, it appears that Bungie is now interested in building its own in-house mobile game engine to “reach players on iOS and Android mobile platforms”.

NetEase Games is an expert when it comes to mobile games, with several huge mobile games under its belt. So it’s safe to assume that Bungie will branch out to mobile devices sooner or later.

For the inexperienced, NetEase had invested $100 million in Bungie in 2018 to become a minority shareholder in the company. At the time, Bungie had said the deal would help it “explore new directions” and “build new worlds.”

It also read: “[NetEase has] a significant amount of experience in mobile web [Bungie] don’t have” and that the partnership will allow them to “invent new ideas”. Earlier this year, NetEase teamed up with Blizzard Entertainment to create Diablo Immortal for mobile and PC.

Currently, there is no official confirmation from Bungie about the reported mobile game Destiny. And if the game has been in development for more than two years, we can expect an announcement from the company soon. In addition to the unannounced FPS game, Bungie is also working on a new IP that will be described as “a character-centric multiplayer game with humor and RPG elements”.
